Why use a blog to promote your business online?

Why use a blog to promote your business online?

Why you should blog to promote your business online?

Why use a blog to promote your business online? Save for Time investment- in learning and doing – Blogging is an inexpensive way to market your business online.

It’s hardly a surprise that I spend significant amounts of time reviewing the online footprint of many a small business.

The first port of call is to look at their website.

More often than not, I come across the following scenario.

A business owner decided recently or a few years ago to put up a website because that was the norm at the time or what they felt was expected – rather than having any detailed vision or indeed any plan for the project.

The business owner ultimately approved a 4-page website and occasionally a blog thrown in with a few posts done. After Then – Nothing!

Time and again I encounter 4-page websites- some great -some bad -speaking from the viewpoint of visually only,  but regardless of the visuals- the “The Love Affair” ends rather rapidly because very simply there’s no content there to digest!

So If I were a visitor why stick around?.

In general, what I find sad is that it is so easy for any small business or startup to incorporate a blog when they are setting up their website on day one – but they just don’t bother.

Furthermore, it is not actually that difficult to start a blog. It costs nothing if you use WordPress and a blog is a platform to publish all sorts of information, news and offers.

With just some practise, patience and learning any business can create useful content for their audience.

Put simply there is an awful lot that any of us could write about if we just sat back and give it some thought.

"If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done". Bruce Lee

Why Do Many Businesses not Use a Blog?

In my experience, the first and foremost reason is the simple fact that many business owners do not know how to access the back end of their website let alone how to access the back-end to create-format and edit a blog post.

  • Some know how to blog,  but just do not have the time
  •  Some people have ideas but suffer writer’s block
  • Others find it hard to produce content consistently.
  • Some rightly or wrongly just have a fear of writing
  • Many would like content created for their website but worry about the cost
  • Some believe it or not actually believe that just because they have a website the world will care and will result in a flood of traffic to their offerings- and blame their website.
  • Others will tell you that they heard that Blogging does not work!

Of course, there are situations where blogging may not be an ideal fit in fact for a business online but in general terms, most businesses will benefit from consistent but realistic blogging once it is done consistently with a plan and purpose.

Why businesses should blog? Why use a blog to promote your business online?

In the blog section of your website, you can mix all sorts of content that is interesting to your target audience
with a mix of

  • Images,
    Text,
    Video,
  • Podcasts
    audio
  • PDF’s

If you deliver useful information to an audience who have an interest in your business sector then two great things happen:

An often-quoted formula online: Value = Trust = Sales and

Blog content enables you to  Attract- Educate- and Convert

Yes, it is true that just posting content will not result in an avalanche of sales but if the approach is consistent and your content continues to reach an interested audience you will establish Trust and ultimately success for your efforts

Simply because it will become apparent with time to that audience that you are somebody “who knows what they are talking about “.

Yes it is also true that whilst blogging is not per se difficult,  there are a number of moving parts involved all of which take time to learn but in this day and age, it is no longer prohibitively expensive to engage a freelancer or virtual assistant.

Why Irish Business Should Blog?

Why Irish Business Should Blog?

Why Irish Business Should Blog?

There are many reasons why Irish Business should blog.

Why Blog Content Matters?

By creating blog posts you can share your expertise, and you get to demonstrate your knowledge and experience in your business sector.

When somebody visits your site low and behold there is actually some interesting information actually there for a visitor.

Sector news of interest to an audience interested in that sector.

the Irish 2019 Digital Health Index 2019 noted that “Irish SMEs have more digital assets than ever before, 87% have at least one digital asset. However, only a minority of SMEs are using them to their full potential.

Time and time again when reviewing the online footprint of a business I start by looking at their website if there is one. I would have to say that in my experience lots have a “BLOG” but guess what-practically nothing on the blog. No reason really for a visitor to hang around then is there?.

Some businesses, however, get that content marketing -blogging being one medium – matters!.

Having a blog containing information relevant to the sector- well that is both interesting and relevant- especially if there is a variety of content in different formats.

If your competitor online has a great blog and you have none its hardly rocket science to suggest that an online visitor-a real lead, will be more open to what the competitor offers.

The simple reality is that by creating valuable blog content it will pay dividends over time, and yes the process is not a magic button.

i often explain to my leads that even if only 1 useful blog post were created once a week that’s 52 blog posts in a year and remember each of those posts if done correctly will remain relevant for some time and can regularly be posted through social media for promotion and brand awareness.

Blog posts can show to any visitor that you know what you are about.

Think of your website like a house – adding rooms to it adds value. Remodelling it adds value. Blog posts are like bricks in your house because by using them, bit by bit they add value by building more rooms in the house.

Sharing content that belongs to someone else is hardly food for showing your know how and expertise.

There is a time and a place for “cute dog videos”!

Whats The Catch?

why irish business should blog

What's The Catch?

For someone who knows all the basics-NONE – save time investment.

Beginners have the challenge of a number of moving parts-Design_Layout_Keywords-Social Media Integration. However why not get a freelancer to do all of this-with you supplying the basic article.

I’ll be the first to admit straight-up that creating great blog content can be difficult and can take time—but really worth it for your business over time!

Whats The Opportunity For Your Business?

Why Irish Business Should Blog – Remember in Your Sector There are Lots of Poor Blogs Up There?

In my experience, there are lots of bad or non-existent blogs up there,  giving you an actionable opportunity:

Remember-Just Because You Have a Pretty 5 Page Website Doesn’t Mean The World will Care!. You Need More?.”

Opportunities For You To Do lots of promotion:

  • Secure new email leads
  • More Social Media Shares & Follows
  • Promote your unique content on social platforms
  • Improve SEO by giving search engines useful information people want
  • Presell a product or service by explaining the benefits
  • Preselling by explaining how you solve a problem for a customer
  • You build and earn trust in your sector
  • You will connect with new people

Blogging will after a while connect people to your brand and style and do wonders for brand awareness online.

Have Realistic Expectations!

Remember consistency is the big key to success in both blogging and indeed on your social media accounts. Its, unfortunately, a marathon and not a sprint so approach blogging with that mindset.
